Natural Park of Collados del Asón

The Natural Park of Collados del Asón is an exceptional place where one can enjoy the beauty of very different landscapes and the importance of karstic modelling processes, as well as the discovery of significant Cantabrian summits and the great variety of ecosystems, fauna and flora that will delight even the most exquisite visitor.

River dynamics and the karstic processes developing on calcareous materials.

This Natural Park in its totality is located in Soba, at heights between 240 and 1,581 metres. The topography of the lime-filled massif of Alto Asón has outstanding features, such as those originated from glacial action during the Quaternary Period, river dynamics and the karstic processes developing on calcareous materials.

The Park’s most relevant characteristic lies in phenomena linked to glaciers. The Natural Park of Collados del Asón is part of what used to be the large glaciated system of the eastern mountains of Cantabria.

Some of the well-visible landforms were created by accumulation and erosion processes caused by ice, such as the spectacular Circo de Hondojón. Visiting it is recommended, for it is home to ecosystems with a great diversity of fauna and flora, for its peace and quiet and its authentic scenery.

There are different routes to get to know this amazing Natural Park and an Interpretation Centre (telephone number: +34 942 04 94 38).
